Well, as some of you know I'm a hands fetishist.. At least when it comes to drawing them or admiring on other artists' drawings
Hands are also one of the most hard parts of a human body to draw. I know that myself because I only rarely take up the challenge to draw realistic hands and palms.
Despite my partial disability to draw fully realistic human figures, I love drawing simplified comic/manga styled hands. This was actually something I loved doing from the very beginning of my drawing history and I rarely made mistakes (such as 6 fingers on one hand, hands being placed oakwards etc.).. I paid attention to hands since I was a kid. I sometimes make them look like bleeeeeeh while trying new styles - that's always a risk. But after experimenting with that I always come back to my standard hands drawing style.
I have never sat down with a plan to practice drawing them on a separate sheet of paper. Actually I'm not the type that has been practicing every separate part of the human body.. Separetely. I've been always drawing whole figures and practicing different parts all together at one time.
I know really many people who started with sketching hands, lips, eyes etc. on separate sheets of paper and when they were satisfied with those body parts they've been trying to put them all together in order to draw a whole figure. *surprise surprise* Most of them had problems with placing them on right position, on adjusting the sizes of different parts to make them harmonize with each other. That's also not a rule and some of them managed to do that. But most of these folks are having problems with that even right now.
Also many guys neglected drawing hands. As they were hard to do - they were just hiding them in long sleeves or behind characters' back. That was a HUGE mistake.
When something is difficult and hard to master you shouldn't ignore it. You should practice drawing it till you're finally satisfied. Even if you get tired with the topic. Ignoring it will only make your way to improvement harder and longer.
So.. Here you have a bunch of hands. Many people have been asking me how do I draw them. Requesting for a tutorial. But unfortunately I can't make one.
I don't use any special tricks. I don't even use goemetrical figures and lines as guides. The same goes for my anathomy drawings. I simply.. Draw them. First I make a sketch - as the ones you can see above - then ink it and colour.. Or simply put color on a sketch when I don't want to have outlines. I draw then at sight without any special and secret sketches or techniques.
I also know that some of the deviants here have been using my drawings as references to draw hands. I'm not showing off, they did. They do it all the time although I have no idea why - my hands drawings are not perfect!! Maybe they will find those sketches helpfull in a way.. Eventhough I know they will just redraw them and give me no credit, as they used to do it in the past.
I want them to know that re-drawing something line by line/pixel by pixel is not a way to improve oneself. It may be a good excercise for the beginning. There are also hundreds of thousands of works including hands so actually they could copy them from different images all the time and showing off that they're masters in drawing them. Although they are not.
So.. Maybe you will find it helpfull in some way. Maybe you will not like it and criticise it because the sketches are not as perfect as most of you would like them to be. Some of you would probably wish the fingers to be more thin.. And some of you would like them to look more angular or realistic. Some of you are just waiting to point out that they are too long..
Well, this is my way of drawing them. I can't do any better right now, sorry

*raises hand* That was/is me!
Btw, these hands are fantastic. I wish I could draw hands so gracefully and effortlessly!
I've always struggled with hands, I find myself using a mirror alot of the time and posing my hands how I need my characters and even then I fudge it alot of the time... sigh.
But I think this sheet of random hand postures may actually help overcome some of those little problems, I can see the way youve formed some of the hands and I think I can transfers those ways over to my own style, thanks Karin, thankyou from the bottom of my socks ( thats a whole full bodied thanking, much better than just from the heart, no?)
I might disappoint you. You are not a pioneer in the style of drawing hands like you described above. I saw thousands of pics with hands drawn exactly like yours... Many of them drawn by famous ppl. With the rest I can agree.

I did not say that I am a pioneer. I also did not say that I'm the only one who draws them exactly like this. Although 'exactly' is not the right word because when people even decide to copy somebody else they would have to try hard to make them look pixel-by-pixel alike as on someone elses drawing. So you didn't quite enlighten me or dissapointed me if that was your point.
